Report from Herefordshire/Worcestershire September 2011
As usual we have had a very busy and enjoyable summer with just four events to come. Many of the events in this area are organised by the Hereford District Driving Club which is a BDS affiliated club and operates all events as per BDS guidelines.
We have had a few BDS events including the Spring Show – I am sure you have all seen the reports and photographs in the Local and Carriage driving magazines. Next years show will be a BDS show again at Hampton Court Castle as the last two years. If there are any Worcestershire members who would like to get involved and help with the organisation or on the day please let us know. Date to be confirmed but provisionally Sunday 20th May.
The Introduction to Driving Day at Monnington Court has been widely reported and was a lovely day gaining us several new members. We are hoping to put on a similar day in Worcestershire at Gracelands near Droitwich in November - date to be confirmed.
We held a rally from KC Riding and Rescue centre ( Roy’s place) on Sunday 11 September it turned out to be a lovely day with a breeze but some sunshine and everyone had a lovely drive and a super barbecue afterwards.
We have been disappointed for our one donkey turnout this year. Welcomed at our own show in previous years - we tried to enter for several local shows and were told that the entry would not be accepted - very disappointing. I would point out that in all BDS driving shows donkeys appear to be welcome it is only when they are to be near to riding horses that there appears to be a problem.
We would welcome hearing about other people’s experiences at local and county shows.
